In February we began a series on the Book of James: “Faith / Works”
Faith is what makes the Christian life possible.
Faith is the approach of the heart that allows us to consider life as joy and not play the victim.
Faith / Works is at the heart of the expression of this joy: we don’t work to be saved, we work because we are saved.
Faith / Works is what enables us to not drift into being so heavenly-minded we are of no earthly impact, like someone who looks at themselves in the mirror and quickly forgets the way they look.
Faith that Works helps us keep the form of our new image intact. Faith transforms us into doers of the Gospel not merely receivers. Faith keeps us humble and our tongues from fuelling fire.
Faith pours out in mercy not indifference.
Faith pours out in religion that cares for the helpless. And Faith turns us to God in prayers of dependency.
If faith has worked salvation in you, then salvation should express itself in works. “Faith / Works”
Looking forward to diving into this punchy little letter to us from the half-brother of Jesus.
Grace and Peace, Pastor Mason
